2026 - A Vision for the Countryside
This new charter for the countryside describes the England CPRE wants to see in 2026, our centenary year. The Vision, produced after wide consultation, pictures a countryside in 2026 that is used and valued by all as a national asset, helping create a healthier, less stressed nation where people are in tune with the environment and aware of their impact on it.

A report by Europe Economics for the Campaign to Protect Rural England

The Barker Review suggests that there would need to be a doubling of new house building creating an extra 120,000 new homes a year to meet demand and counter house price inflation. This report challenges the basic assumption that there is an undersupply of new homes. Census data from 2001 reveals that there is actually a surplus of housing in all regions across England.

A Countryside Friendly Smart Grid
This manifesto for the future of the national electricity grid has been issued by CPRE, in conjunction with a wider alliance of countryside campaigners. It calls for a smart grid that has a reduced impact on the landscape, and to reduce the need for new grid infrastructure in the longer term.

A CPRE briefing on the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill

CPRE's briefing outlines our concern that the Government's Bill to streamline the planning process places too great an emphasis on economic development, to the detriment of the environment, and will considerably restrict local democracy. We feel the steps needed to enable planning to manage land-use change in the interests of society as a whole demand genuine engagement with local communities and a commitment to environmental sustainability.
