In 2009, we campaigned at national, regional and local level to influence the Regional Funding Advice process to divert funding from major road schemes to public transport. Our local groups played a key role in defeating plans for damaging road schemes in Westbury in Wiltshire and on the edge of the Peak District National Park.

In 2010, the main challenge will be to influence the National Policy Statement on National Networks, which sets out for the first time a national policy for trunk roads and railways for the next 20 years. A draft is due to be published for consultation in March 2010.

Local authorities across England are drawing up their new Local Transport Plans, setting out their policies and priorities for 2011 onwards. Our branches are involved in the important task of influencing these.
